Project
Educational brochure for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) given to donors at the time they were identified as a match for a recipient.

Objective
  • To clearly communicate necessary medical information to donors of all cultures.
  • To humanize the medical information so people felt connected to what they were doing.
  • To clarify the process of donating marrow.

Approach
  • Used photos of real life donors, from different ethnic/cultural backgrounds.
  • Divided the medical information into short, easy to understand sections.
  • Used "The Missing Piece" idea to emphasize how important their commitment was to patients.

Outcome
  • Donors were informed without being overwhelmed by stacks of white paper and black text.
  • Answered donor questions up front, so coordinators didn't have to spend extra time on the phone.
  • Gave coordinators another educational tool to ensure that donors understood the process of marrow donation.
